I NEED To Stand Inside the Fire

God is Love. He is an all-consuming Fire, the Fire of Divine Love which should be burning within our hearts.

Luke 24:32 And they said to one another,“Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, while He opened the Scriptures to us?”

Acts 2 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.²Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. ³They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.

Let my heart be ablaze with the fire of God’ love.

Hebrews 12:29 for our God is a consuming fire.

God is first identified as a “consuming fire” in Deuteronomy 4:24 and 9:3. The writer to the Hebrews repeats this phrase as a warning to the Hebrews to worship God with reverence and awe “for our God is a consuming fire.” Our loving and merciful God is also a consuming fire, destroying all that is not of Him, all that is not holy.

The song by Garth Brooks always makes me weep, my heart ache, because it touches a deep need, a desperate desire to be consumed by the fire of God’s love. I do not know if he intends this song to be about the Love of God but my intellect is bypassed when I listen to this song, the words pierce straight to my heart, my spirit and entice me to turn to the Lord.
